Capitol City Rifle Club

THE MOST COMPLETE SHOOTING CLUB IN CENTRAL MICHIGAN

Organized Club Activities

Small Bore Rifle and Pistol

CCRC has 36 covered-pavilion shooting positions at 25, 50, and 100 yards, with
sturdy backstops for stapling paper targets, and four bench rest platforms for sighting in.

Our rifle and pistol teams are affiliated with the Central Michigan Rifle and Pistol League (CMRPL).
During the winter, November through April, the CCRC Small Bore Rifle Team shoots weekly indoor
league matches at local ranges. This team is open to everyone, regardless of skill level. For more
information on the rifle team, contact captain Bob LaReau at 517-332-5403.

During the winter, November through March, the CCRC Pistol Team shoots weekly indoor league
matches at area ranges. This team is also open to everyone, regardless of shooting ability or handicap.

At the end of the season, the CMRPL holds an awards banquet and dinner for all participants
and their families.

CCRC also sponsors a Junior Club rifle team that shoots indoor with the CMRPL. Junior Club
members meet Tuesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. during the winter.
Participants are taught marksmanship and safe firearms use by NRA certified instructors
,
and fire .22-caliber rimfire and airgun rifles in the NRA junior marksmanship program
with awards at each stage of competition.

Handgun
There are 15 covered-pavilion shooting positions at our 25-yard range, which has a 180-degree
horseshoe berm with rugged backstops for stapling paper targets. The
IDPA match events are
held here and in the four bermed areas directly behind this range. This is also the location

of our Caboodle Shoot, which is a fun pistol match using IDPA scoring,
but does not require a holster, magazine pouches, or concealment.

Bench Rest Shooting
Four rugged bench rest shooting platforms take their place underneath our 18-position covered-pavilion
firing lines at the 50 and 100 yard ranges, with one bench at the 200 yard range in the high power
rifle pavilion. Our bench rest shooting area shares the same firing line as the 25-yard line located
immediately to the left, providing an additional 18 shooting positions. Here are directions on how to build your own bench based
based on the design used at our club:

Shotgun
Our modern electronic trap range is open Wednesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. during the
the summer and fall. The trap area has new concrete paved walks, and lights for night shooting.
Trap is open to everyone. For more information, please call Bill O’Connor at 517-655-6515.

Women's events
Our club sponsors several Ladies Handgun Nights throughout the summer, and we also hold
a Fall Ladies Day where handguns, rifles, and shotguns are provided for use.
These events are open to the public, and are designed to provide both amateur and
experienced shooters an opportunity to learn safe firearms handling and basic marksmanship,
in a relaxed atmosphere, and meet new friends with a common interest in the shooting sports.

Handgun training
Training by NRA-certified instructors is offered in all aspects of handgun use. We offer many technical
levels to advance the shooter’s knowledge and skills:  basic firearms safety, CCW classes for
concealed carry, and IDPA techniques from basic to advanced tactical.

Hal and Jean Glassen Memorial Match
The Glassen Match is designed as a family event. It is a .22 rimfire rifle match with six classifications:
Youth (fired at 25 yards), Junior (fired at 50 yards), Adult (fired at 100 yards), Senior,
Parent-Child, and Family. Families may enter as many classes as are applicable.
Four plaques will be awarded in each of the six classifications.

High Power Rifle
The high power pavilion has 10 covered shooting positions at 200 yards, with military-style target pits
complete with target carriers. Several NRA-registered high power tournaments are held between
April and September from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Many
Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) qualification
practices are held from April to September on scheduled Saturday and Sunday mornings from
9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. See the
Calendar of Events for exact dates, or contact the
High Power Rifle Director Bob Steketee at
rcsteketee@aol.com.

ID4
The ID4 (Independence Day) Match features marksmanship competitions using original,
as-issued, military rifles from all over the world, fired at the 200-yard range.
Four plaques are awarded in each of the five classifications: World War I, World War II,
Early American Wars, Early American Rifleman, and Last Ditch.
Many participants dress in the appropriate uniforms or clothing to match the era of their firearm.

Frozen Chosin
Frozen Chosin is our new 200-yard commemorative match honoring the brave men who fought in
extremely severe weather conditions in the battle of the Chosin Reservoir in Korea during November and
December of 1950. Held in December, this match is restricted to M1 Garand Rifles and M1 Carbines only.

Hunter Safety
Our club sponsors, and provides range time for a Fall Michigan Department of Natural Resources
Hunter Safety Course for youth and adults, to provide training required to obtain their first hunting license or to refresh their skills. This class is taught by NRA-certified instructors.
